Avalon Beach Fill Project Begins

The 2023 Beach Fill project has officially begun in Avalon. Crews moved heavy equipment to the 20th and 9th Street beaches last week, and the dredge, “Texas” arrived over the weekend. Sand pumping has begun and moved up to the 11th-12th Street area, with a total of 55,000 yards of sand on the beach already. Currently, 9th-12th street beaches are closed for safety.

The 2023 Beach Fill project has officially begun in Avalon. Crews moved heavy equipment to the 20th and 9th Street beaches last week, and the dredge, “Texas” arrived over the weekend. Sand pumping has begun and moved up to the 11th-12th Street area, with a total of 55,000 yards of sand on the beach already. Currently, 9th-12th street beaches are closed for safety.  

Avalon Borough officials estimate that a total of 581,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed on the north end beaches prior to Memorial Day Weekend, with an ideal completion date of May 9 (weather permitting). Stay tuned for more updates on this project as it progresses!

The 2023 Beach Fill for Avalon, NJ has officially begun with the mobilization of heavy equipment to 9th and 20th Street beaches, and the arrival of the dredge, “Texas.” Sand pumping began earlier this week and has progressed as of 4/18 to the 11th-12th Street area. Throughout this project, beaches are closed within a 1,000-foot area of the work.  

This project is projected to run every day until completion and will only stop in the event of weather conditions or mechanical issues with the dredge. The Borough estimates 581,000 cubic yards of sand will be placed on the north end beaches of Avalon, with an anticipated completion date prior to Memorial Day Weekend. 

Following project completion, the project will move south to begin the Stone Harbor, NJ beach fill project. Stay tuned as we provide more photos and updates as this project moves forward to restore the beaches in Avalon for the summer!
