After several delays, Avalon’s long-awaited sand backpassing project is officially set to begin. Emergency repairs to the Avalon Boulevard bridge have now been completed by the County of Cape May, clearing the way for critical heavy equipment to reach the island.

On Monday, June 9, machinery will begin arriving via Avalon Boulevard throughout the day, with all equipment accessing the beach at 32nd Street. Residents and visitors should expect periodic delays and slow-moving eastbound traffic on Avalon Boulevard as equipment is brought in one piece at a time. Local police will assist with traffic coordination.
